Pain is never a good thing, but it can be especially troublesome if it prevents you from doing what you love. Ingrown toenails are a great example of this. A painful, troubling irritation around your toenail is usually the first sign that something might be wrong. Most people might try to shrug this pain off and ‘play through the pain.’ They think that it’s just a slight discomfort. This is usually a bad idea for several reasons.
Instead, they often get worse as the nail continues to widen. An ingrown toenail is caused by the nail growing into the soft, sensitive flesh. If it continues to grow this way, you’re risking serious complications when the area becomes inflamed, swells and begins to drain.
